I’m replacing the driver's side frame rail in my BJ8. Everything I’ve seen available for rail to rail dimensions suggests an inside dimension of 17”. The Kilmartin replacement crossmember is 17”. I've jigged the whole frame up on a flat steel bench, laser aligned the frame and cut out the original frame driver's side rail.
The original x member was not bent in the previous collisions. I was very careful not to remove any of the original cross member or outriggers parent material. The cross member netted out at 17-3/8”. These frames were allegedly built with a frame jig. The replacement Kilmartin rail is straight, so 17” ID should be correct. The passenger side frame rail is within 1/32 of inch of being straight.
Can anyone shed some light on this please?
