TR2/3/3A OD angle drive engaging the speedo cable

So I was super careful in fitting the speedo angle drive to the OD, remembering the copper washer. The problem is that the female end of the angle drive is a 1/8” round hole and the speedo cable is a 3/32” square cable, so there is absolutely no engagement. Defective albeit new angle drive? The OD spins the angle drive perfectly, but the cable of course doesn’t spin.

Right, no angle drive needed for TR2-4. But you do need an extra-long speedo cable. 96" IIRC Angle drive is needed for TR4A-TR6 (and Stag, etc.)

The hole should be square inside, to grip the end of the inner cable. Sometimes you can't see the square portion, but it should be there. Sounds like you got a bad angle drive.

Angle drive should work, even on a TR3, but I much prefer the long cable. Less expensive and less troublesome.

Thanks, guys. I already have the 96” cable, so sounds like overkill. Will run it tonight (these pesky day jobs...)

As I was writing this, I figured out it is supposed to be routed it into the handbrake hole— correct? Jim

Correct Jim, then follow the foot brake fluid pipe forward through the same large grommet up the fire wall and back into the back of the speedo through the grommet to the left of the battery box.
