During cleaning the needle on my tach broke. What a bummer. Any thoughts on where to find a replacement short of buying a used tach for parts? (and then hoping to get the needle assembly off without breaking another.....)
Thanks folks,
Will

I could not find these new. I even called a couple of repai places, but they would not sell me a used one because they needed them for repairs, and they are getting rare. Best bet is a junk tach.

Thx Ed. Yep. Finding out the same. FYI, Nisonger Instruments only rebuilds (they will sell you the gaskets) Cost for speedo and tach is $185 (each). They have the needles made to specs ($50) and this is additional if needed. The smaller instruments are $125. Turn around is ~ 2 weeks. Will further review.

Do you know if the needle for the tach is the same as the speedo? I might have a late speedo that has a usable needle.

Yes they are. Use care in removing it though. The plastic needle is mounted on a metal base and is very brittle from aging. It is prone to breaking at the end of the plate. Here is a shot of my broken needle; I suppose it could be glued back and carefully painted. The needle seems to have a slight curve to it, maybe creating a weak spot. Thanks everyone. In the middle of cleaning the smaller gauges. The larger ones also need repair, blasting, and painting; so considering having them done. We'll see.
Noticed that the smaller gauges have an inside seal (looks like dried, cracked, cork) You can buy the rubber outside gaskets (and replacement small leather oil gasket), but haven't seen these gaskets for sale. Guess I could use some flexible silicone caulking.
Any thoughts?
Thx.

You can use a rope caulk product. It's less messy than caulk from a tube. I put in an amount where the bezel would squeeze out the excess, which gets trimmed off with an Exacto knife. Black is better for this, but brown was all I had at the time.
