extra hole in my water pump?

Hi Folks.. Got a new water pump and it seems there is an extra hole drilled. Installed there is one at the 6 o'clock. OK, a weep hole. There is also one at the 1:30 position. What is that one for? Excuse me if this has been answered before.

The original pump had one slot at about an inch long at the bottom. There was also a grease fitting, 1/8 pipe thread at the top and aft of the slot.

Right, Tom. I have the original pump I think.. No grease fitting, but with the 1 inch slot. This car sat for 20 years..it's locked up. I bought a new one from TRF. There is about a 3/16 hole drilled in the casting at the bottom at the impeller end. I'm told that is a weep hole. OK, that makes sense. But there is an identical hole in the casting at about the 1:30 position..looking at the pump installed. Don't know what that is. Thought it might be an oil hole, like motors had in the old days. Thought it might be a mistake..you know..oops, that's wrong..I'll just drill another. Thought it might be a vent..don't know about that. Seems like oil and other assorted engine crud would get in and plug it. So, is it a mistake..should I fill it with something..or is it supposed to be there?

As long as both holes are in the same cavity, outside of the seal and bearing, it shouldn't matter and need not be plugged. Anywhere else would be a problem. Perhaps someone else has had the issue and will reply.
