Hi folks.. has there ever been a list compiled for compatible lube products for my tr3a? IE engine oil, gearbox, diff/rear axle..like the Recommended Lubricants page in the shop manual. Thanks in advance

We have discussed and re-cussed this topic many times. The problem is that the choices are almost entirely based on FUD and personal opinion. So, there are almost as many conflicting opinions as there are members of this forum; and very little consensus.

That said, here are my opinions, based on many personal experiences and hundreds of thousands of miles covered in a TR3/A under pretty harsh conditions:
Crankcase : Valvoline VR1 (racing) oil 20W50 unless you live in a colder climate and/or have a freshly rebuilt engine.
Gearbox & OD (if fitted) Redline MT-90

Rear axle and steering box : Valvoline SynPower 75W90 gear oil

Brakes and clutch: any fluid rated DOT 5 (not 5.1). Brand not important, I usually buy from TRF just because their price is good (and I like to support TRF).

Thank you sir. I'm still looking at a completely redone rolling frame, though I have a newly rebuilt engine I want to mount. Right now I have the cover off the differential..wiped it out and wanting to flush it out a little so looking for a suitable gear oil. Seems that SynPower is as good a start as any. Yes, this subject is scattered all over the site. I was just wondering if anyone had put together a page similar to the pages in the shop manual where there are several compatible choices. Again, thanks for your reply.

I've followed Randall's recommendations with my recently-rebuilt drivetrain, with a minor exception: I run straight 40W Valvoline VR1 in the motor. I've found the gearbox and OD respond well to Redline's MT-90 (very smooth shifting).
