    New Battery Needed for BJ8

I needed a new battery for my BJ8 so I traded in my Interstate, but so far they have not been able to provide me with the same model. Does anyone have an idea about another brand which would fit and be reliable? Thanks, Dan.

    Re: new battery?

As long as you get the same group number as the battery you are replacing it should fit exactly.

I've had good luck with Deka batteries, made in the USA. Group 24 is usually recommended for BJ8s.

I used to measure up the size of the battery base on the various vehicles we've owned, as well as the height, and just bought whatever was the biggest one that would fit in the hole - making sure the post connections would also work. Doug

Use a 27 if you have maintained positive ground, and a 27f if you are now negative ground. This keeps the posts in the original location, away from the metal hold down bracket.

Group 27 lead battery gave excellent fit and performance for many years until the alternator / negative ground conversion. A smaller and lighter group 24F lead battery is now used. A battery tender helps keep it fully charged and conditioned.

If you can, find an AGM type of battery. The Platinum series at AutoZone is, I believe, an AGM made by Deka.
Then, get a battery minder made for an AGM and you're good to go.

My 100-6 has an Optima (which is AGM) that the previous owner swears was installed in 2003. It still works.
The AGM in my 72 Corvette lasted 10 years.
I put the AZ Platinum in my 2008 Corvette when it needed replacement.

You can mount an AGM on its side, so even if you flip your car over it will not leak. Of course, you might have other concerns....
