Truck Ideas?

I had a '95 Dodge Dakota 4WD,with a 318 V8.I had to sell it,
as I needed a bigger truck to haul a trailer to Virginia.Bought a '96
Ford F150 4WD,351 V8.It was too big to be driving as a daily driver.
Bought a 2WD Dodge Dakota,with a V6.I want a 4WD pickup again.
I've thought about buying back the Dakota (the owner's willing
to sell it back to me.I loved that truck. If I bought it,I'd put some money
into it,& plan on keeping it for as long as I can.
The downside is that it's in California,& I'd need to fly out/drive
it back, although I wouldn't mind getting back to Eureka,& always enjoy
traveling cross-country.
The things I like about the Dakota is that it's high-tech enough
to be reliable & nice to drive, but not too high-tech,& has a high towing
rating.

What other trucks out there would fill my needs, but still be
affordable (under $7000 - although I'd like to spend less)?.

I want 4wheel drive,extended cab,V8 (or V6),that's re-
liable,& will last for years.

Get what you need to be happy and accomplish things.

But think of all the money you're spending on yourself, and how it could help others in your area.

I'm not sure just how to take that.If I was really spending money (like buying a brand new-
$50,000 + pickup) I'd get your point.I have a real hard time spending a lot of money on any vehicle.
That's why I'll never buy another new car.

I like them,but I don't want a full size truck,& I want an extended cab.Plus,those things are starting to
go for serious money.

I was also thinking of maybe a Tacoma, but am leery of things like that.
Plus, the prices seem high for the miles.

Tacomas hold their value, so bargains are going to be few and far between. I had an '05 Tacoma four door, and got more than I thought I would when I traded it.

As an alternative, you might want to look for a Nissan Frontier. I have an Xterra - basically the same, but SUV - and have been impressed.

I still have a Ford ranger 4 cylinder I bought new in 1986, hasn't been on the road in a few years but we have used it on the place ever since I pulled it off the road and it still runs great! Doesn't look to nice, but it was the best buy I ever made in a truck for durability. One cam timing belt, one new alternator and one fuel pump in 200,000 + miles. Of course in 1986 they had a cast iron engine, no aluminum. Naturally not as strong as it used to be, but STILL doesn't burn any oil! When it finally dies, I think were going to have a ceremony for it and give it it's last rites! :encouragement:
