    Truck Ideas?

    I had a '95 Dodge Dakota 4WD,with a 318 V8.I had to sell it,
    as I needed a bigger truck to haul a trailer to Virginia.Bought a '96
Ford F150 4WD,351 V8.It was too big to be driving as a daily driver.
    Bought a 2WD Dodge Dakota,with a V6.I want a 4WD pickup again.
I've thought about buying back the Dakota (the owner's willing
to sell it back to me.I loved that truck. If I bought it,I'd put some money
into it,& plan on keeping it for as long as I can.
The downside is that it's in California,& I'd need to fly out/drive
it back, although I wouldn't mind getting back to Eureka,& always enjoy
    traveling cross-country.
The things I like about the Dakota is that it's high-tech enough
to be reliable & nice to drive, but not too high-tech,& has a high towing
    rating.

What other trucks out there would fill my needs, but still be
affordable (under $7000 - although I'd like to spend less)?.

    I want 4wheel drive,extended cab,V8 (or V6),that's re-
    liable,& will last for years.

    Ah. A Marmon-Herrington 4 wheel drive Ford conversion...1949 or 1950 would work.

    https://www.txclsx.com/index.php/pro...on-herrington/

Funny. Claims original flathead V-8, but then claim it's a 1948. The engine shown is an 8BA style, released in 1949, not 1948. 48's had a 59A style.

$50,000 Dollars!? I'd never spend that kind of money,
    & couldn't afford to.

I'm not sure just how to take that.If I was really spending money (like buying a brand new-
$50,000 + pickup) I'd get your point.I have a real hard time spending a lot of money on any vehicle.
That's why I'll never buy another new car.

Tacomas hold their value, so bargains are going to be few and far between. I had an '05 Tacoma four door, and got more than I thought I would when I traded it.

As an alternative, you might want to look for a Nissan Frontier. I have an Xterra - basically the same, but SUV - and have been impressed.

I still have a Ford ranger 4 cylinder I bought new in 1986, hasn't been on the road in a few years but we have used it on the place ever since I pulled it off the road and it still runs great! Doesn't look to nice, but it was the best buy I ever made in a truck for durability. One cam timing belt, one new alternator and one fuel pump in 200,000 + miles. Of course in 1986 they had a cast iron engine, no aluminum. Naturally not as strong as it used to be, but STILL doesn't burn any oil! When it finally dies, I think were going to have a ceremony for it and give it it's last rites!
