    stromberg carb

The air valve in my 77 Stromberg 150 CD carb does not lift when the throttle is pushed. Car starts hard and idles rough for a few seconds then stalls. If I manually lift the valve the engine revs. Not sure how to fix the problem.

The car was running fine nothing was touched prior to this problem.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Glad you found it.

I recently had problems with new diaphragms which were too stiff to roll smoothly. Then I bought good ones from Joe Curto.

Typically, the first thing to suspect is a diaphragm tear. Most aftermarket "kits" are inferior, get the ones from Curto.

And weaken older diaphragms, gum up needles, generally plug up small openings. Use something like "Stabil" if the engine is not being run for months. A good plan is to run it up to temp for a few minutes every month or so.
