    Center Gearbox Input shaft bearing

I disconnected the clutch housing from the center-gearbox and found that there was no spring washer and washer between the input shaft bearing and the housing as described in the service manual (position 3 and 4 in the Moss diagram).

Now I have seen that these two parts are not available at AH Spares and Moss. Instead, AH Spares offers shims of varying thickness. But how do you determine which shims you need to fix the ball bearing between the two housing parts?

Gerd, I don't have any experience with the Healey trans, but with some experience with an MGA trans I remember that the object was to shim so that there was no end float in the shaft. But not really tight.

    Many thanks Vette

I downloaded the pages "Rebuilding the MG gearbox" from Mgaguru.com. Although the gearbox is slightly different, most parts of the description are also applicable to the Austin Healey transmission. Also, the description is much more detailed than the AH workshop manual.

Re: Center Gearbox Input shaft bearing

When disassembling the gearbox for my MKIII / BJ8, I counted 66 bearing needles for the 2nd and 3rd gear bearings.

At all spare parts suppliers, however, only 65 (32 33) needles are always specified for the two bearings.
Does one needle now belong in another position in the gearbox, or are 66 bearing needles used on the BJ8 main shaft?

Re: Center Gearbox Input shaft bearing

The parts book shows 33 needles for second gear and 32 for third gear . I can't find any other use for the extra needle in the BJ8 gearbox .

Re: Center Gearbox Input shaft bearing

From the parts book both the items ( 3 and 4 in your diagram) are actually shims 22b132 and 22b133 .

    regards,
