It's compulsive. I had a student in a lab that could not help herself... constantly looking despite being told to "take it outside."

In my US Govt. classes kids frequently take photos of my books. Two years ago the district bought new books but only enough for desk copies based on the idea that the books are available in digital form through the company website. The only problem with that ingenious plan is that not all of my students have computer access at home and that the website is nearly impossible to view on a phone. I do make my kids take notes over my lectures but for things like vocabulary and the questions out of the book I don't mind them just taking the pictures.
