Front shocks

Hi all,
I recently had my two front shocks rebuilt. They came back good as new, see pics. Unfortunately after a couple of weeks or so it went back to bouncing along the road ! Upon closer inspection it seems like a washer or a seal has come out of both shocks, see middle picture. Also the oil has come out , I assume. My question is

a: Is it easy to repair the shocks? Then refill with oil, if so what oil.

b: Or should I just exchange them for reconditioned ones?

I would prefer to keep the ones I have as they are original to the car.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nicko

Hi. Thanks for your replies. The guy who did the shocks did it as a favour, so I can't send it back. The question is could I repair it easily myself or is it a specialist job. See pics of the inside as sent to me at the time of the rebuild

I also recommend World Wide. I couldn't believe the improvements in ride and handling after having them rebuilt. Drove like a brand new car.

Depending on your interests (keep it completely original, or 'tasteful' upgrades) and budget, consider Putzke's 'Fahrspass' Bilstein shock conversion. We have them on our BJ7 and - according to the shop I was madly transferring pay chequest to a couple of years back - it road/handled better than any other Healey they'd one. Doug

Nicko, its probably not worth it to send to US for you but as others have noted Worldwide in Madison Wisconsin does a great job. When the rebuild them for you they also replace the seals so they will not leak in the future. They also ask you whether you want your original back and whether you want to keep the original bolts to retain the stocks originality. Had mine done by them and very satisfied. If you are going to go to the trouble of having yours redone locally be sure to ask them the fix the seals as that is the main point of failure. Once completed you can't tell the difference from the originals; they just work a lot better.

Thanks for all your help on this subject. In the end I decided to exchange my shocks for a re-conditioned pair at AH spares in the uk. The problem was that the"washers" on the outside of the shocks had come out and needed a press to re-install it which i didn't have .In the end the new shock works as good as new and I have my old car back. Thanks to all Nicko
