    Upholstering the rear wheel arc

Upholstering the rear wheel arc, does anyone have a method of keeping the upholstery piece even has the seam travels down the arch. I have done this a few times and struggled each time; there must be a craftsman’s way. For now I have the vinyl held in with the back seat and piece of un-upholstered backing. The back seat seam and wheel seam probably should meet and from there travel down the arch. I have seen different kinds of padding behind the vinyl and I believe the original stuff was some very thin cotton batting. I might just glue right to the metal without the pad; I do have some thin foam, but I cannot get a good feeling about how this is going together. cannot seem to post pictures

CJDs post is and continues to be my bible. I can't do the copy paste thing on my phone, but it's on this forum.

    Upholstery?! Is the thread name
I must keep telling myself, it's a journey, not a race...

I used some material that came with the Skinner seat trim kit. It was a very thin foam pad with a nylon type backing. I cut that to fit and glued it in place then glued the carpet to that. Seemed to hold OK and you can peal and re position the contact cement.
I have some left if you need it.

So I am not the only one that poured over John's posts looking for inspiration.

I used the thin cotton pad and am not happy with the results. I can see the seam where it folds underneath and small imperfections in the steel / glue / cotton. An 1/8" thick foam pad would be better.
