In the case I know about, it was that foil-covered flat spacer from under the cap of a bottle that fell into the tank and would shift and block the outlet.

Ok...s**t is really getting weird. An aluminum seal from a bottle cap??
Guess it won't be surprising when someone reports finding a condom somehow blocking a fuel passage.
    Heh...

Re: Engine dies slow left turn.

    Hookay,
After a lot of great suggestions I have found the fix. Unrelated while this thread was underway, I washed the car including pressure wash of the engine compartment. After that...no start. We've probably all been there. Push the car into garage let it set overnight. It has been really hot here in western PA. AM the next day, still will not start. Spins but won't start.
Begin to suspect an ignition module problem. Go to Advance Auto..the module checks out OK. Pull and reseat all spade terminals, check fuses, remove ECM check connections, check the circuit board for that overheated smell, resoldered one questionable connection on the starter.
After 3 days with cranking but no start and replacement of distributor cap, rotor, coil, spark plugs. Resetting the air gap between reluctor and magnetic pickup inside the dizzy I finally checked continuity from the ignition module to to the coil negative (white wire)...there was none. WHAT?? Turned out the wire was broken behind the spade connector but was invisible because the insulation was mostly intact and keeping the wire in one piece. More or less an invisible break that made occasional connection.
I repaired the wire with a new connector, hooked it back up and the car started right up. Take it out for a drive, no more stall on the left handers. RPM's still drop somewhat more than I think they should but it looks as though TR3 driver may have pretty much called this one in more ways than one. Fact is, it looks as though that wire was responsible for two separate issues. We all know how difficult intermittent electrical issues are, but, by finally failing it became possible to zero in on the source of the problem. Definitely a relief.
Thanks to you all for being so helpful. What a resource you are.

9 out of 10 times, it's something simple and stupid like a broken wire. The 10th time...you don't want to go there.

    From Wikipedia:

Occam's razor (also Ockham's razor or Ocham's razor (Latin: novacula Occami) is the problem-solving principle that states, "Entities should not be multiplied without necessity."

You know "Keep It Simple Stupid" (KISS). Was never very good at that.

    Thanks.

The classic electrical problem, hard diagnosis, simple and cheap fix.
