Rig for storing chassis on its side

I need to store a bare chassis for a year or two. If I can store it on its side, it will give me much needed extra space. Has anyone built a rig, with wheels, to do this?

Here's something you can do on the cheap (sorry, don't have blueprints :wink-new:smile::

Addendum: You could do T-shaped stands instead of the A-frames.

Thanks for the tips but I already have a rotisserie. I'm thinking of something more like a cradle that has a smaller footprint - both width and length - and a lower center of gravity.

The rig I built, with casters stored it right side up. I used 3" square tubing with 2x4 wood on the top so as not to scratch the frame rails. The bare chassis is light enough to use just wood, and I would support it on the frame rails.

Hook a couple of heavy web straps to the ceiling next to the wall (using I-bolt lag screws or something else well anchored to the rafters above) and suspend the frame from above. Buy a case of beer and get four or six strong buddies over to lift it into the slings. Don't give them the beer until after the job is done. That's the best I can come up with.

Too bad I don't live closer to Portland.

John -

You'd love Portland, our summers are great and we have race tracks (drag race, road race, motocross) within a city park.......

hi Richard- hope all is well. I agree with blueskies suggestion above using the strap idea, perhaps strapped into wall studs vs ceiling. In addition, I'd strategically place 3 or 4 old tires (maybe old race tires from your bn7!) to cradle the chassis on its side and use a come-along to crank it upright (assuming you have a few strong anchor points in the wall studs). Or an engine hoist could probably tilt the chassis 80% of the way and then the straps against the wall will just ensure it doesn't fall on any innocent bystanders during storage.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with a project I have, just need to find a solid wall to lean it against!
take care!
Austin
