Positive Ground Alternator wiring.

I have located a positive ground alternator with a speedo cable end. Should make it easy to boost my amps so I can run a cooling fan etc. So will I need to rewire around my voltage regulator or can it just be wired in straight. I suspect it will need to be rewired as it will be supplied with DC current, but just checking. Anyone have some instructions for wiring through a dummy voltage regulator. Trying to go with the stock look on the car.

See this:

The article above explains how to convert the regulator box to be a junction box so you don't have to cut the wiring harness. I would double check the info in the link to what others tell you as the article above is also aimed at negative ground installations.

You said you found a positive ground tach drive alternator. I knew that there were a few positive ground alternators. I had no idea there were ever positive ground versions with tach drive. Take good care of it.

Bugeye guy has these in both pos and neg ground. Neg ground is $10 cheaper.

I am glad that the price on the alternator in a generator housing has come down in price. When I first saw these about 10 years ago they were only available in Europe and cost about $800. I still didn't know a tach drive version was available. Let us know what you think of it.

Joe. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like they make a dummy junction box, so that answers part of my question about wiring. I think I might have an old box in the garage and will see if I can use it. Doug I will order after the weekend and let you all know how it works.
Thanks

Paul, apparently your BE doesn't have stock instruments????

If not why do you need a tach drive gen?? And no speedo is polarity dependent unless its a modern GPS version.

I have the stock instruments, but a few additional period (Speedwell and Stevenson) rally instruments on the shelf and a radio ( which was installed on the car,, that I have removed) thus I had planned on keeping it positive ground. The original tach needs a cable in the bugeye. My latest fear is that my relatively new Moss Wiring harness (Yellow generator wire) may not be rated for the 45 amps coming from the replacement alternator? Thoughts.

I see, Paul.
If your alternator is internally regulated and I'm sure it is I think you could just run a heavier wire directly to your battery in parallel with the stock wire. Might not look exactly kosher.

On a BE you could run it to the start solenoid [switch]. Probably be able to hide it quite easily that way.
