Turn signal flasher??

Just changed flasher unit's in my Mk3 Sprite. The one a PO fitted flashed really fast so I changed to an old one I had lying around. Flash speed is now right but my dash indicators now only give a single flash and that is it. Any idea's???

Would love to have tha answer to that. By signals flash on BE but dash lamp only flashes once for the right one. I have been trouble shooting for several years byt no luck. Only thing left is to change the lamp holder.

Clean off the green. Polish up those connections.

Suppose that is it? They flashed with the flasher that was on the car. Just way too fast.

Traditional flashers are thermal/current actuated switches. Because of that, if you have the wrong light bulbs installed (too many or too few Watts) then the flasher will operate at the "wrong" speed or not at all.

Does your car use the 3-terminal or 2-Terminal flasher? On 3-terminal installations, one terminal is specifically to drive a single dash mounted indicator light. I have see a couple of different wiring schematics for the 2-terminal flashers.

Three terminal, Doug. They flashed way too fast with the flasher the PO fitted. Car is a Canadian spec with bulb's that draw more current than US so no surprise with the speed.

With the 3-terminal flashers make sure you have:
Green/Brown on the "L" terminal,
Green/Purple on the "P" terminal, and
Green on the "B" terminal (or "X" for an aftermarket U.S. flasher).

"B" is power in from the battery typically after passing through the hazard switch when fitted.
"L" is for the 'load'... the signal bulbs.
"P" is for an output dedicated for the indicator bulb in the dash.

That could be wrong. I do remember it was wrong on my MGA years ago and gave me fits. I'll check it out.

The MGA should have the same flasher wiring. For a refresher on what's supposed to be happening, see the link below to Barney Gaylord's MGA Guru website and his pages about the flasher.
https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et104.htm

To clarify my earlier post, the load wire on "L" is supposed to be "light-green/brown" while the supply wire in on the "B" terminal should be a darker green. The indicator lamp wire may also be considered "light-green/purple".
