TR2/3/3A Fastener Question

Work progresses on my Friend's TR2 renovation. The frame has been stripped and now has a first coat of primer as I do a couple repairs, before paint. On each side there is an angled piece of square tube, running up and forward from the top of the frame rail to the upper coil spring mount. Each has 2 holes in the top side with nuts welded in the tube for body mount bolts. One of these had broken loose, and as I'm in the habit of chasing the threads on all re-used fasteners I was surprised to find this is a 3/8-24 nut. On a British car from the mid-50's. Are all the nuts and bolts SAE on these cars/
Thanks, Phil

Phil,
yes. You will find most all body hardware to be fine thread and studs in/ on the engine be to be course thread. But virtually all inch not metric.

Thanks for the info! Good to know. I had visions of a '63 Bonneville motorcycle that I had many years ago, I think that was either British Standard or Whitworth.

You will also run into some British Association (BA) threads smaller than 1/4". The two sizes that I've run into are 2BA and 4BA. Carefully check any screws smaller than 1/4".

Also 0BA, which is very close to 1/4".

The connection studs on the starter solenoid and starter come to mind. I once pretty well ruined a working solenoid, by trying to chase the threads with an SAE die.
