As I am preparing the TR for the driving season I decide to fix some annoying issues. One issue is the leaking trans from the main case to extension housing seam. I figure this would be best by saving some time and pull the extension housing with the trans still in the car seems simple enough seen it done before. So I pull it apart going fine with exception of being very oily and found a partially dissolved rubber mounting. once I get the extension housing off I see some thing I have never seen in a TR trans the layshaft lock plate is bent and the shaft is backed out of the trans. The trans has no noise or drive ability issues nonetheless it is now coming out.
What do you all think is the cause, poor quality parts?
I am now going to take it out and tear it down and inspect the laygear shaft for damage as it will be easy to inspect. I rebuilt this trans around 1986-7 so now I am worried about the quality of the parts from that era. I have another trans I was planning to build this fall at the same time I overhaul the A-type that I will put back in, the original A-type trans was destroyed in the early 70's when my father towed it across the country. Those plans just might get bumped up!
OH! Happy Easter!
