Lotus Elan S4, From water pump...to a strip down..

Last spring I decided to change the water pump in my Elan, that means head off! Then I decided saw that the exhaust valve guides were weeping slightly.....and it's gone on from there to most of the car currently in bits....

....and so it goes on probably for another 12 months or so.

Welcome to the Forum, djb222! Keep posting progress! Maybe we can reinvigorate the Lotus section of the Forum.

S-4, retro-fitted with DCOE's! Nice. Spyder frame?!? You lucky guy! My original frame has been bent and straightened (1975), now cracked laterally at the rear, where the diff steady rods attach, after impact at speed with a piece of steel beam in the passing lane of an Interstate highway... a Spyder frame costs as much to ship here to the Colonies as the frame itself! Gearing up now for a second frame-off for the S-3. May opt to patch the original frame and continue to wish for a Lottery win.

Water pump. Know the job intimately. It can be done without head removal, but that's tedious. I've done Europa T/C ones on a lift from underneath, without pulling the head, as well as Elans.

And your "pile" is totally familiar! I recently fitted an alternator to our MGB, will do the same with the Elans when the time comes. A worthwhile 'conversion'.

Thanks for your comments, I've now decided to strip the paint. See other thread..
