To view the Parts Lists online or to download as PDFs:
https://lbcdigital.com

I was talking to Michael Salter yesterday and the subject came up of the LBC Digital Parts Lists that I created for the Austin-Healey more than a decade ago. Michael asked me me why I hadn't put those online; I said because of inertia (i.e., laziness), so not really a reason at all.

So in the spirit of community, I have put the Austin-Healey Parts Lists online for all to freely use. You can see them by going to https://lbcdigital.com. These aren't just PDFs of the Parts Lists, these are transcribed, fully searchable databases that are presented in a similar format as the original publications. You can search for part numbers and keywords, and even print pages.

Over the years, I felt that the hundreds of hours of effort that I put in creating the Parts Lists should be rewarded and I shouldn't just give away all that work. But then I realized that the digitized Parts Lists really should belong to the Healey community. I understand now that helping to keep our Healeys on the road is the reward.

Enjoy!

Re: Austin Healey Parts Lists for the BN4 through BJ8 are now online

A serious 'thank-you'! One amazing aspect of the original BMC shop and parts manuals is the incredible clarity of the drawings. Again - 'thank-you'! Doug

John,

What a great resource to have online! I found the Service Parts lists to be invaluable when restoring my BJ7 and my bugeye. A handy tool to use with the factory lists is the search function at the Little British Car Co website: https://www.lbcarco.com/ You can put in the factory part number and it will come up with the Moss part #

I have an old, American auto shop textbook, probably from the late fifties or early sixties. It had quite a few drawings from BMC manuals--including Healeys--illustrating basic engine components, etc.

I've often wondered if Moss and, I think Vicky Brit and others got permission to use the drawings in their catalogs.

Again a comment from the UK a truly valuable asset, Some of our suppliers could learn a thing or two from the illustrations.

Bob,

Hahaha.... No.

Were you referring to a Parts List on CD or an actual hardcopy? If you meant the CD, I don't see your name in my records. Did you perhaps buy one from British Car Specialists?

Hi All,

I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and words of encouragement I've received from everyone, on and off the forum. The Parts Lists seem to be popular, with hundreds of visitors and thousands of pages served over the past two days.

Re: Austin Healey Parts Lists for the BN4 through BJ8 are now online

I have had inquiries about adding zip files of each parts list to my site, so people can use them offline. So I have posted the files at lbcdigital.com.

I've had reports of the Parts Lists not working from a hard drive. It seems some of the modern browsers refuse to load the files for security reasons; browsers from 15 years ago weren't quite as locked-down as they are today. There's nothing dangerous about the files, just coding (that was fine a decade ago) that the browser doesn't like. If that happens to you, send me a report and I will see what I can do to fix it.

Very nice work, I used a copy of a copy of this manual when putting my car together 20 years ago. I wish I had this.

FYI, after extracting from the zip file, it works fine with Firefox and Edge, I could not see any of the pages with Chrome.

I did not see any disclaimers, so I assume I can put this file and link up on another web site.

As they say in the Guinness commercial "brilliant!"

Re: Austin Healey Parts Lists for the BN4 through BJ8 are now online

Johnski,

Thanks for the compliments.

Unfortunately, the Parts List doesn't work with Chrome on my OS (Linux) either. You can see the error on the developers' console by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+i after the page loads. I have tried to figure out the error but without success. If anyone is a web programmer and has any ideas, let me know.

You are free to share the link to this page or directly to https://lbcdigital.com. I would prefer if you didn't share the file itself; that way, if there are any updates, there aren't old copies of the file available at other locations.

Thanks,

John, it appears the browsers are hunting the menu file in the logged on user's home directory with Chrome and FF on a Linux O/S. I've not yet placed the unzipped contents into my home directory (my files are a ~mess~ so if it didn't work I'd be hard pressed to get them back out). The files come up fine when using the link to the site, though. I'm running CEntOS 7 here, FYI.

Fantastic your work; do you have information on the BN1 (I'm of course interested because I have one)

Thanks!

I never started digitizing the BN1/2 Parts Lists. When I started these, there was a huge emphasis on the early cars: so many tech articles, and even the Concours Guidelines were heavily detailed on the early cars and lighter on the later series. So it was a conscious decision to start with the BJ8s and work backwards (and it also helped that I had a BJ8).

By the time I got to the BN4s, I ran out of steam and only partially completed the Parts List for that series. I don't foresee ever digitizing the BN1/2 Parts Lists.
