Rib case problem

I ran my 74 Midget transmission a little low on oil. After topping it off it is making a intermittent loud snapping sound when in gear and foot off the throttle.
It sounds normal when under load only makes the noise when I back off. I know it is a pull out an tear down. Just want to get a little ready for what to
expect when I take it apart.

Could be sychronizers or the little bearings in the gears moving around. Change the oil first and see if it is still there.

Thanks Larry, The syncros are good as I have been babying them. I can’t believe I let oil get
so low. I will try the oil change.

That would be Ok with a conventional gear box with a roller release bearing but, being that the Sridget clutch release bearings are carbon every time you engage the clutch peddle only wears the carbon off faster. So your actually working the bearing double time by doing so unless your racing and pull engine frequently to replace it?

Well l would rather change a clutch than tear down a gearbox.
I raced HP years ago and have had a bunch street sprites and midgets as well. Never noticed any unusual release bearing wear from double clutching.

Same here, I never had to replace a release bearing either in my Street BE which was my daily for about 10 years or my FP car. Maybe the newer release bearing face material is softer than it was years ago.
