Went on a wonderful drive in a friend's 1924 Bentley 3 liter "Speed" model. No, I didn't drive... it's not an easy car to drive. It can cruise at 70mph with ease.
The beast is in spectacular condition.
The car to the left is a 1950 Bentley MkVI. Also in excellent condition.

Yeah, WAY beyond my affordability. Still, a hoot. The car was way ahead of its time (with things like 4 valves per cylinder).
The owner considers it a "daily driver!" The top rarely goes up and they'll drive it in the rain (open cockpit and all).

WOW. I've never even seen one up close, much less get a ride in one. Beautiful.

This car has the same spec as the 1923 LeMans winning Bentley.

I have so much admiration for people who have cars like this - and just use them - a few years ago a couple of people (Brits I think) drove a similarly vintage Bentley across the country - IIRC their "spares" were an extra set of plugs - other than that they figured they could order anything they needed.

Still amazes me that it's "just a used car" to the owner. They, too, have driven serious distances in it (1000 miles one way)!
Thankfully, they are just a cell-phone away from the guy that knows how to care for it.

This might be the guys you're thinking of:
I've drooled over this video before. The Petrolicious channel has some other really good British unobtanium porn as well. Look up the Lightweight C Type works car from a couple years ago. And there's a profile of a Jag collector in California who has every rare racing cat that I would make a deal with the devil to own. The specific focus is on his ex-works D Type that he's put more miles on than anyone else I can imagine putting on a D.

I think so - and yes, I have wasted a lot of time on Petrolicious the Mercedes 190E might actually be my favourite.

BTW just noticed you are in Decatur. My wife and I both are Columbia Seminary alum- love love love the downtown (and the Farmers Market)

Ha! We live literally next door to Columbia Seminary. We're on Conway Road, which is the next road down the Seminary.
If you're ever back in ATL, let me know and we'll get a pint or several at The Brick Store Pub.

Another shot (of the engine). It's an amazing beast that is over-engineered to the max. Again, 1924!!!
