HI,

My rear hubs splines are worn. Im wondering how difficult is it to replace the rears? Would an impact wrench help? Do i need a hub puller?

thanks Ray

Big 3 arm puller and an impact helps. Just watch out when the puller is under tension and the hubs not moving. Last time I pulled one the hub was under tension and wasn't moving walked away to get another tool and about 2 minutes later it shot about 6 feet clear of the car.

:iagree: I've seen/heard those can be a bear or they come off relatively easily. Also, you may need a thin wall socket (1 5/16"?) to access the axle nut. Keep us posted as to your progress.

After talking with my wife and sharing your advice we have decided ill try to pull the hub myself next weekend, but if its a bear im going to throw it on the trailer and have my mechanic do it.
I will ordering two new rear hubs from Moss tomorrow. thanks guys

Ray,
Im a sucker for an easy way to do something and I would look for a couple of good rear axles. If I were replacing the wheels and axle hubs I would go for new.

Rut,

I have a complete spare rearend. i just dont know what condition those hubs are in. i only plan on doing this once so, i think im going to go with new hubs and be done with it.
the wheels are going to be replaced with new 15" wires over the winter

Buy a couple of new hubs, then pull the axle shafts out and take them to a shop to have the old extensions removed and the new ones pressed on. They can be VERY hard to get off without a good press. $120 a side from Moss.

And do yourself a favour - do an honest assessment of the splines on the wheels - replace the hub extensions and use them with work wires and you'll just screw your new parts up.
