Attaching BJ7 Oval Chrome Dash Molding

Jersey

I cover the dash in new vinyl and now need to attach the oval chrome molding to the dash. Moss Motors shows a "clip" in their catalog but it is apparently not available. Does anyone know how the clips work or are designed? Alternatively, can the molding be glue to the vinyl?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Jersey, I think your talking about the chrome oval that goes just around the main gauges on the driver's side. I tried to find some pics of mine when I had it apart some years back and I only have two that might give you an idea of what you need. They aren't good pics but i hope will help. On the pick showing the back of the dash in the center top you can just see the two pronged clip (appears black) which is stuck thru the whole and bent over to secure the chrome ring. the other pick just shows the front of the dash and the holes for the clips. I did not re vinyl my dash preferring it to be body colour. Maybe clips could be found at a hardware store. hope this helps some.

The original clips function like these brass paper fasteners, which can be used if you play a bit to get them in the slot.
Or bend some flat stock.image.jpeg

Resurrecting an old thread.
Jersey, did you use the brass paper fasteners? Or did you find something stronger?

I pulled my dash and glued on a nice piece of leather fromJohn Skinner. I don’t have the original clips that hold the Chrome dash ring inplace. The brass clips aren’t strong enough to hold the chrome ring tight to thethicker leather.
Is there a stronger clip option? I could try to use contactcement on the backside of the dash. Glue the clip ends to the aluminum?
Does anyone know of other options?
Dale
