Not sure of the answer to your questions, but assume black was standard issue.

However, I have to comment on your forum handle - lafong - as in Carl LaFong? "Capital L, small a, capital F, small o, small n, small g!" Classic comedy moment!

I cannot answer for a '69. However, on our '67 the frame is body colored. While the car has had some resprays over the years, the tub has never been off the frame and every bit of the frame I have seen was "white" just like the body.

This was true of all the "small chassis" Triumphs: the Herald/Vitesse range and the Spitfire/GT6 range. Chassis were supplied TO Triumph in more or less a "chassis black" finish. Body -- including doors, bonnet, etc., -- was fitted to the chassis, after which the entire assembly went through the color paint process top to bottom, inside and out. On an original, untouched car, you'll find little or no color only in the "deepest depths" of the interior. On the chassis, you'd likely see some of the original black only on the top of the chassis wherever the body fits rather snugly over it, such as most of the run of the floor pan, etc. Under the bonnet, you should see nothing but body color everywhere, as that area was much more exposed and accessible.
