Hi Folks.

I am looking for a small car lift that maybe only goes up 4 feet, as I have limited ceiling height in my garage.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Ron

Right now I am considering the Quickjack, sized right but only rise is 20" Saw an Atlas unit in Sea Isle City last weekend that allowed more parking for the condos. Lift and drive under. Goes up about 4 ft towers were about 5 ft.

Just put in a regular lift and dont lift it to the top . The posts on mine are about 6ft 4" . You must have more ceiling height than that .

Just got an email the other day from MaxJax USA; they're selling for $1,899, free shipping. Been using mine for about 5 years now and love it. Your floor has to be 4" thick concrete.

When I designed and built my new shop, I planned my "race bay" around a full lift two pillar system . It's one of the best things I did, I don't know how I ever lived without it. This system might work for you and it portable if you don't want to keep it up all the time.

Would love to have a lift. No doubt there are pros /cons to a two-post unit and a four-post unit. Perhaps the four-post has a less demanding concrete compression requirement? Safer?

A 4-post unit would indeed have a lesser requirement for concrete compression strength and thickness, as it is spreading the load out over 4 separate areas instead of two, assuming the total contact area fo the 4-post unit is greater than the total contact area for the 2-post unit.
One would expect a concrete garage floor to have a minimum compressive strength of 3000 psi, unless a lot of water was added to the concrete truck at the time of placement.

I am leading to a 4-post unit, as it would provide the secondary support for adding a method of containing any fluid drips from the car stored on the lift.

I just ordered a four post lift from bestbuyautoequipment.com. They carry a wide range of manufacturers, capacities and price ranges. I went with the Auto Lift brand which is the cheapest and yes manufactured in China. I previously purchased a rotisserie from them which was the best price found and also made in China. Found the quality to be very good so trusted this lift to be also very good. Should get it next week.

Mine is a four poster from the lift superstore and its definatley NOT made in china . It doesnt need to be bolted down as the footprints of the feet keep it stable enough for use with bolting down (as long as floor is smooth and level)
it came with drip trays castor kit for moving it around and bridge jack . Best garage investment I ever made , oil changes , brake jobs , tire swaps etc etc etc all done at a comfortable height . I even have a comfy office chair to scoot around on under the car while I work.
Im even thinking of a slightly more basic four poster just for storage space for cars in my shop .
I wouldnt go two post , too much strain on chassis/suspension components etc when they are hanging in the air in my opinion . You cant store a car on a two post .
Four post is more versatile , you have low ceilings , put plywood across the runways and store all your garden furniture on it up in the air and park below ??

Also mine is 230v ,pump is way faster , the 110v version of the same lift is slower then a wet weekend to raise etc if you have the option do 230v

Ron,
i have had a MaxJaxx for about 18 months and love it! I too had a low clearance to work around and it fit perfectly. The Healey exhaust causes some special handling with 2x6 drive-on blocks under the wheels to clear but it is very easy. I can raise it the full 4 feet with a couple inches clearac
nce to the windshield and it is sure nice to work on the suspension at chest height or be able to sit under it for undercarriage work. I have found that since it is so easy to get off the wheels, I find I am doing more maintenance and general "health" checks than before.

Have had a two post 4ton 240v single phase unit for over a year now and what a difference it makes as previously said it makes health checks a doddle, and easy to top up on the ol waxoil. Only cost just over a grand cheaper than a pair of front seats!
