Interesting audio alternative

Over the years I have had various audio setups--first simply radio, then I added a CD changer (remotely mounted in the boot) and finally a Sirius satellite player. I had four speakers--two in the kicks and two boxes trunnion mounted behind the dash but due to my dissatisfaction with sound quality while driving I gave up on audio a few years back.

Yesterday I bought a TonePro 780 wireless stereo headset which links to my android phone via Bluetooth. The necklace earbud speakers are not noise canceling and I can still hear enough ambient noise (exhaust, horns) to be aware of my surroundings, but they have excellent sound quality including remarkable base response. Switches in the necklace allow togglinging to cell phone function.

They cost $60.00 at BestBuy and could probably be bought cheaper online and they are compatible with either Android or Apple phones.

Unfortunately they are not legal in California. At least one ear must be "free". Makes no sense but it is an old law. There is also a law that indicates you may not drive with all your windows closed so you can hear sirens. I use my ear buds under a brimmed hat when I drive with the top down. It appears you have a hard top so no one will see.

I was in a tool rental shop yesterday and saw a rack on the counter with earbuds that instead of the usual soft dome shaped tip that we have all come to love, terminated instead with one of those soft "barbed" hearing protector style plugs which had built in speakers. I use ear buds ("officer I swear you are mistaken, I had only the one on your side in my ear") but am often freaked out at what I end up with as a comfortable volume. I would never be able to listen at the higher volume if I weren't trying to drown out enough exhaust note to hear my music player. For some reason it doesn't seem as painful when I'm driving, especially if I'm being the old dude singing at the top of his lungs going down the road (that makes people smile almost as much as the car does). The passive noise cancelling earbuds were only 6 bucks and I should have bought them because they don't get much cheaper than that and it would have been worth a try. Anyone tried those?
