Edd China is Gone

Don't see how "Wheeler Dealers" can ever be the same.

What a disappointment. Enjoyed both Edd's style and his teachings...a lot.

Here's what he has to say about it (4 minutes):

I saw that earlier today. I am extremely disappointed. Some people have grown tired of the show but I have not. I don't think there is anything left on Velocity that I care to watch.

Had that been the case, I'd have posted in The Pub.

Watched on a regular basis to see the difference in the cars, not so much the buy and sell aspect. He is very thorough, and some of the techniques were interesting. He did reflect the basic at home garage workshop without using a lot air tools and etc. Hope he continues to do this somewhere else. Will have to see the youtube posts. It is a shame that as successful as the show was, that greed has caused such a demise of good programs.

I wonder if he'll pair up with Jeremy Clarkson at some point.

Some of this new Velocity Channel stuff really makes me scratch the bald spot on the top o' me head.

Seen it happen soooo many times.

Passionate little guys come up with cool, original idea, execute it on a shoestring and keep it going with enthusiasm and efficiency.

It gets successful beyond little guys' wildest dreams.

Big guys who haven't had an original idea in years and don't actually understand the idea in the first place (if the could they might have been able to come up with it themselves, but they can't) see the success and want to get in on it.

Big guys buy little guys and start changing them into a reflection of the big guys, expressly deleting what the little guys were always all about (and what made them successful).

Big guys now have more of the same of what they've always had. Same-old, same old problems grow. Success diminishes, then disappears.

Big guys can't figure out what went wrong, blame little guys, congratulate themselves for short period of success.



Ends up being just another Saab story.

Sad to learn. He certainly made the show special.

It seems that TV doesn't want to show craftsmen doing things. DIY shows are little more than advertisements for equipment, car shows puff up personalities and egos, and now we've pretty much lost WD too. I enjoy Edd's work, it's like what I do with my cars and is a bit inspiring.
But then, I used to like Junkyard Wars too, for much the same reasons.

It's getting worse. See the link below to additional post by Edd about his departure from WD and how the viewing public has now started harassing Mike. I am upset about Edd's departure and the planned changes to the show but things appear to be getting out of hand.

Two points to make:
1) Edd's a class guy
2) yes, we might get two new shows! I'd certainly be interested in one done by Edd.

Plus I have never had much time for used car salesmen. Interesting that Brewer claims he and his wife are getting death threats. Wonder how much "reality TV" enters into that.

All these years watching..they buy, sort and then...sell off these cars...and one or both of them often lament on how they wish they could keep them, but that is not on.



Makes you wonder....aloud....how many were kept by the principles involved.
