TR2/3/3A New TRF Girling 9" brake drums compared to orginal

Hi all,
I just purchased new TRF 9" brake drums for my TR3b. They appear to fit perfectly - centered tightly on hub with no compromised one-size-fits-all center hub opening. Diameter and depth are the same as the originals. HOWEVER, there is one hole missing on the face of the drum - the one that lines up with the adjuster. As far as I can tell this isn't needed since these adjusters can be adjusted from behind the retaining plate. There is also a slightly different shape to the outer flange that again doesn't appear to effect functionality. Anyone have experience with these drums. While not concours I would like to be as original as possible.

The hole is for the earlier Lockheed brakes that had adjusters accessed from the front. I imagine they carried the hole over to the 3/3A and 3B so they would only have to stock one drum for all.

That said, few would notice the missing hole once the wheels are on, but if it bothers you not being just like the original, it would not be hard to drill it. Nobody is sharp enough to notice the rear flange difference unless the 2 drums are sitting side by side.

I always wondered if they accounted for the hole in the balancing of the drum - probably not. It is useful on the later cars the first time you adjust the hand brake but once you get a feel for the action of the adjuster it is of no further use.

Nice looking part - once painted someone would have to be very observant (even nosy) to spot the differences.

Thanks guys. When I go to rebuild I will decide on drilling a hole. Probably not, may depend on how much you can, or cannot, see through wire wheels.
