TR4/4A which fuel pump rebuild kit to use

Has anyone rebuilt the fuel pump using the kit from Moss and if so how has it held up? I've dismantled and cleaned my original pump and ready to order the rebuild kit but now trying to decide if I should go with TRF or Moss.. Both kits contain the same parts but the one from TRF is more expensive which is ok by me if it's a better quality kit..Does anyone know?

I was told that the new moss pumps are not ethanol proof and they fail after ~2 yrs. I would presume the repair kits to be similar. I cannot say for sure if the TRF pumps are ethanol proof.

I rebuilt my pump about eight or so years ago using the kit from TRF. At the time, the TRF kit had the lever arm seal which was the only kit that had it. I don't know if that's still true today.

+1 for the kit from TRF. In addition to the features already mentioned (definitely is ethanol-proof), it has an elastomer ("rubber") seal for the sediment bowl that works much better than the original cork seal. And the screen is brass, not plastic as in some of the other kits. I put mine in in 2008 and I've never had a moments trouble with the pump since.

I have to correct what I said earlier. That info is for TR6 pumps. The TR2-4 kit from TRF is the way to go, I've used that in four or five pumps. It does still include the shaft seal, you just have to pry out the retaining cup.

One thing I forgot to mention and it might be a biggie..the pump, although original to the car, is not an AC pump..it's a BCD made in Italy..It's design is a duplicate of the AC type but I believe the check valves may be different..so this actually changes my question a bit..Has anyone used the TRF kit on an BCD pump?

I have a friend with an Italia (TR3A engine) that has an Italian made fuel pump. I do not know the brand but it looks like the AC design.

He had to rebuild the pump in situ when he discovered that on the Italia one has to pull the engine (at least part way) to R&R the fuel pump. He used a rebuilt kit from Moss.

Personally, when I have rebuilt a pump I do not mess with the check valves if they are secure and working.
