Fitting the original tr3 transmission cover over a tr6 overdrive

I remember this topic before and tried to do a search with no success. The issue is that the transmission is a inch longer then the TR3 original so the speedo cable doesn't line up with the rubber boot so I used a 90 degree adapter and that solved that problem. But now the new unintentional consequence is that the adapter protrudes over the mounting flange. What kinda fix am I looking at.

Hmm - are you sure you have bad interference if you take out the angle drive? If you can massage the cover slightly to fit a straight cable I think you will have one less component to worry about. My 3a has a 4 synchro overdrive box and I don't use an angle drive.

I had to add the angle drive because there was no way to make that sharp of a bend in the cable. It is latterly an inch past the boot and no way to make that kind of a bend without pinching the cable. Now the angle drive will hit and wear on the tranny cover unless there is away to get relief.

On my 4A I cut a hole in the cover and used a rubber floor plug to give room for the angle drive.

The 3" hole is about right, maybe some other plug it's been a while. I tried to melt, stretch the plastic tunnel first with no success.

I need to resurrect this thread... is there a definitive answer on how to cope with the right angle drive jutting out past where the transmission cover fits? Looks like this previous thread came up a 3” hole and grommet.

Or, is it not an issue with that rubber piece that encompasses the parking brake?

The rubber piece in your photo is missing the the part that the cable goes into, if you take away the angle drive it should all line up with the slot in the tunnel cover. I have the TR6 box with A type OD and it is tight but does fit ok.

Like tr4nut said if you get the longer OD cable it should arc through a hole in the frame and fit right at that point and fit nicely.
