Yes, it is clipped to the heater pipe with a special (aluminum?)clip.

Mine and several others I have seen have the temperature sensing line clipped to the fuel line not the heater pipe. This is also much easier to do. Have a good day!

Art's picture does have it connected to the fuel line. But I also note that the car does not seem to be fitted with a heater. I also ran mine along the fuel line. The really hard part was the loop around the heater. I was unable to get it back into that position once I had it out . But then who is looking????

Gentlemen,
Jumping on this thread of several months ago, the capillary tube routing in front of the firewall is very clear but the only thing I have seen beyond there is the factory manual diagram showing a sharp turn and circling around the imaginary heater. Pigott in his book also has a photo showing the sharp turn at the corner of the battery box, albeit one without an O/D relay. There is probably enough space for it above the relay.
Does someone have pictures of an original routing from inside the firewall, around the box, and around the heater to the gauge; showing where the (brass?) clips are attached?

Trying to put it around the heater is a waste of time. It takes too long. And what if you have to change the capillary tube some day ? What a pain. Mine goes straight towards the dash near the steering column (LHD) then back to the firewall, then to the Temperature Gauge. Never had an issue with it like this since 1990.

Thanks, Don. I guess in that case it would be a matter of coiling up the excess tube, if any, behind the dash.

I went through the firewall and straight to the gauge. There was some excess tubing but I was able to secure it okay. I've posted a couple of photos to show the routing. Rather than using the clips by the engine I used some fuel tubing and black tie wraps to replace those blue ones that were only temporary during installation.
