TR6 Oil Dipstick Tube

Hello

Does anyone know of a place where I can purchase or source an oil dipstick tube for a 73 Tr6. Item did not come back from engine rebuild shop and they are n/a from major parts houses

Car has been put back together but I have not proceeded since Dec due to military service. Had lead on this forum from member but never followed due job service requirements. So I am again asking if anyone can help out.

Thanks for any help

I have one, It seems to be quite stuck in the block, are they supposed to just be a friction fit or screw in and out? I tried a strap wrench, but it wouldn't really grip on something so small. Don't think a vice grips would be a good idea, anybody have any ideas how to best get it out?

Happy to send it your way once removed, Greg

I'm not sure how they are supposed to come out either, but if you have a small metal rod that fits inside the tube snuggly then you may be able to use something like vice grips without crushing the tube, but it still may put tooth marks on the outside.

I have also made tools out of small pieces of wood to grip items like this without putting vice grip tooth marks on the part. Drill a hole in a piece of wood, with a drill the same size as the tube, and then cut the wood in half with the grain and through the center of the hole. Then place the two pieces together and drill a hole through each side of the hole so you can bolt the two pieces together with the holes halves aligned. Place the wood tool around the tube and bolt together then you may be able to remove the tube by either twisting and/or pulling. You may still what to put a piece of metal rod inside the hole so you don't crush the tube.

From my understanding they are just friction fit. If you are able to retrieve I would be happy to cover all costs to ship. Let me know if you are successful and I can make contact.

Thanks for you help this part has been impossible to source.

I just checked the one in my '69 parts engine and like Greg found it to be in there pretty solid. That block has to go at some point - when I open it up I'll see if I can tap it out from the inside...unless Greg has better luck.

I tried this morning, adjusted a small vice grips with curved jaws to just go around the tube and catch the lip on top. Tapped gently upwards......nothing. Tried a little heat, same result, however, my efforts were hampered somewhat by the wife being asleep and the bedroom being above the attached garage. Currently have some PB Blaster soaking in, will try again later, but the method holds some promise, as the tube held up well.
