TR2/3/3A 1960 TR3A Tonneau Trim Mill board

Afternoon, back to working on the car at last. My mill board trim was in bad shape so I used some creative fixes to get it back to pretty decent shape.
Doing the final sanding and fitting now. I know that it is covered with vinyl, my question is: Does it have any sort of cushioning applied to the millboard before the covering goes on it?
Will be taking the cover and the board to the upholsterer this week and would like to be able to give her some direction on the cushioning before she starts. Seems to me that it should have something between the vinyl and the board.
Your thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Dick,
As I remember there is a thin cotton batting under the vinyl. You may not find that material nowadays. 1/4" foam should work fine. You want just a small amount to give it a padded look.

:iagree: I seem to remember that the vinyl had a cloth backing attached.

I think my panel boards (Moss kit) had 1/8" thick foam under the vinyl covering. I also installed the foam under the wheel arch covers. It looked more finished than covering the wheel arches with just vinyl and it hides small imperfections. Have a good day!

Thanks fellows.
What you said makes a bunch of sense. I shall proceed on it based on your info. John I like the idea of the foam on the wheel arches.

Afternoon all. Another question about the mill board. How does the bottom mount? More correctly to what does it mount? There are 3 screw holes across the bottom but I don't see any corresponding brackets or mounting points on the body????????????

Your thoughts and tips greatly appreciated.

Tinkerman,
If you are talking about the back board of the inside of the boot(trunk), my 60 TR3 has three angle brackets welded to the floor. These brackets are made from about 22 gauge material, each leg of the angle is about 1" wide and they are about 6" long. The backboard attaches to these brackets with sheet metal screws with finishing washers. Hope this helps and have a good day!

I'm not sure if you are talking the interior or trunk panel....here is how my interior panel was fastened at the bottom.

Just make a few. They are maybe 1/2' wide, 1 1/4" long with two holes. If you want exact measurements mine are out in the shop, I'll do it tomorrow.

Thanks for the pictures, I see what I need and can fabricate some replacements. Based on the holes on the back board they only used 3 or perhaps four. Since all of that sheet metal is new I will have to come up with some new ones. Not a problem though.
Thanks all for your help and pictures.
Gotta love the BCF!
Cheers, Tinkerman
