General MG One of those "duh" moments...

Every now and then I have one of those "duh" moments....a reminder that I'm getting old I suppose....

This afternoon was was trying to chase down a bad rattle that seems to be coming from the front suspension...mostly from the right side. I had the front end of the car in the air, supported by stands under the frame rails further back. Took the wheels off and tried to move and shake everything on the suspension to see if something was amiss. Everything is tight. The previously replaced crossmember pads are intact, as are the Superflex suspension bushings. The only thing that moved at all was the sway bar, and those bushings are in good condition as well.

While checking everything out I grabbed the rotor and turned everything to the right at full lock. Then it wouldn't go back to the left! No matter how hard I tried it wouldn't budge. I put the wheels back on for more leverage....still no luck. By then I'm wondering if somehow something in the rack got jammed...if that would even be possible. Finally I dropped the car back on the ground thinking that maybe having the car sitting back on the suspension would solve the problem. I opened the door to try turning the steering wheel.....and that's when it hit me......

Steering wheel lock :stupid: Duh.....

Clearly that bit of knowledge was the key!

At least I was alone in the garage so no one knows about my stupidity. Well, until now... :playful:
