My youngest daughter comes home from college this weekend, to regroup after breaking up with her boyfriend.( who we really like ,BTW)
she and my wife spend a long time discussing the situation and the relationships demise.

I stay out of it, as things like this are a mystery to me.
......but that turns out to be a big mistake.
my wife tells me I really hurt my daughters feelings by, not consoling her.
i say, "but isn't it her boyfriend, that needs consoling?"
wrong answer! Now she is mad at me too.

Trust me. There are no manuals that will reliably work with the softer sex.

They are harder to get pegged down than a Lucas electrical system.

Funny how we think of dealing with women-folk using words like manuals and diagrams.

;)

And grateful they typically don't read BCF!

My daughter did a lot of computer dating. Most of them were losers. She would bring them over and introduce them, many times my wife and I would know in 30 min that it was not going to work out. My daughter would break up with them and then ask why we never told her they would not work out. We can't win that argument.
She kept saying that computer dating allowed her to list her preferences and cut out those that did not meet her standards. Then she met the current one at barbecue. we like him, and they are getting married in June. Amazing, old school dating works.

Uh, yeah. That's the first thing they teach in computer science, that no matter what the inputs are, who controls them, or who wrote the code in the first place, the computers' answers all always right.

Yup. Young'uns sure are "tech savvy" these days.

If a man says something in a forest and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Yes. What if the man is Bruce Jenner though?

I think "computer dating" must be a lot like "computer job search/hiring".
It just increases the clutter. instead of 20 applicants to filter thru, you now have 200.....or 2000 to filter.

plus (& just like an employment resume) it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to start listing preferences that a "computer date" would want to hear.

the ole "met at a BBQ" method can't be beat!

Congrats on their upcoming wedding.

You were put in a no-win situation. Regardless of your answer it would have been wrong. It's best to go apologize for what you said, what you didn't say, and what
you will or won't say in the future. As Bill Engvall said once "I'm just a guy."

I think you should ground your daughter for daring to be mad at you.

No No No - that's the last time I want her stuck in the house!

BTW I have a number of friends who have met their spouses online with great results - beats bars to my mind. That said I must say I had to reassess the "perfect compatibility" salespitch of a certain website when I met a couple who had met on that site, she had immigrated to Canada and now both were perfectly compatible - f*t, lazy, unemployable and living in his mother's basement. really - the perfect couple - but we figure that by marrying each other they made two other people very happy!
