Bugeye door panel glue

I'm ready to install my ribbed inner door panels and want opinions on the best glue/adhesive to use. I'm skeptical of using contact cement and was leaning toward weather strip adhesive,
Thanks, Rut

Yeah, I think I would go with weather strip adhesive. Nasty to work with but really sticks.

Make sure you wipe the oils from the back of the ribbed rubber with wax/grease remover, else it won't matter what you use...

Steve,
Thanks, cleaned and roughed up with 60 grit. I used a Permatex brand adhesive made for this kind of application...not contact cement and it lets you reposition the rubber before it dries.

Perhaps a point of debate.... :fat: but, ain't no way that's the proper handle placement... NO WAY! (not criticism, just looking to spark debate)

Good eye guys! I reversed the door handles so they would open pulling them up vs pushing down...personal preference.

I just got a call back from my painter regarding the proper adhesive and he uses Window Weld urethane adhesive and warned against any kind of contact cement. He said that he's seen rusting under vinyl glued on with contact cement due to the acid in the cement which will eventually eat thru the paint to get to the metal. My dash covering is held on to a primed metal dash with Weldwood/DAP Landau and Trim Adhesive. Since I have a few dashes in my shop I'll probably do another with a non acidic adhesive.

Hi Rut,
could you post the full name of the Permatex adhesive you used? I like the idea of being able to reposition the panels before they set. I just ordered new rubber door liners from AH Spares Wednesday and the showed up yesterday! How crazy is that? DHL does not mess around.

Mark,
Its Permatex All Purpose Spray Adhesive. I sprayed the panel in the first door I did and quickly realized that was a mistake! Spray the door with a really good heavy coat and fold (roll) the rubber panel in half, insert one end then the other and work the top or bottom half into position.

Guys, one of my ribbed rubber panels let go and I don't know if it's the adhesive or the way I applied it. The upper part sagged down, but the lower part is held firmly in place. All that said my doors were painted and the inside of the door was sprayed with a tinted bed liner, so I may have an issue that doesn't affect anyone else, but I wanted to give a heads up.

Rut, my experience with spray adhesive has not been good. Never tried the 3M which should be trustworthy though.

I ran into the same issue seems some of the ribbed material is reactive with some adhesives . Mine let go after about 8 months. The ribbed material I used was slightly shiny and kind of textured I have found that nothing stays stuck to this stuff it all seems to turn to a goo that is like chewing gum.
