ok confession time my jag is an automatic.
good with that out of the way there are four wires that run down to the transmission.
i notice this summer they had been cooked to little black strands of copper so i go to replace them. I get the car jacked measure the length cut the new wires then I'mtrying to take a photo of the old wires on the transmission so I know which is which. Thats tight, but wait there is an access panel! i didnt even have to jack the car up. so i pop that and all 4 wires are oil black in their little cloth suits,
sigh time for fun with the multi meter.
any one have a color wiring daiagarm for the inhibitor switch ?

could those be the 4 wires for the Start Inhibitor Switch located on the side of a BW35 transmission?? if yes, compare with the picture below.

i just used the multimeter and figure out what attached where and the car started and ran fine.... which is not allways the case after I work on it.

the engine should start in Park or Neutral, but not in any other gear. That is the purpose of the Inhibit switch.

Also the Inhibit Switch turns ON the reverse lights when the shifter is placed in Reverse.

one way to adjust: place the Shifter in Reverse, turn ignition switch to ON position, loosen the Set Nut behind the Inhibit switch, then rotate the switch clockwise or counter-clockwise looking for the "sweet spot" until the reverse lights come on. Tighten the Set Nut.
