Bugeye rear bumperettes

Mounting rear bumpers on 1960 Bugeye. The body was redone and all holes for screws welded so not sure where to mount. Pictures seem to indicate they go about 2-3 inches in from lights. Can someone give me exact measurement?
Questions about the inner bracket overrider (VB 19-012): does the 'concave' side face in or out? Also, they screw to the bottom of the trunk, which has ridges, ie, hills and valleys. Do you mount it in a valley or a hill inside the trunk?
Also I feel that with the original design, if something pushes against these bumperettes they will bend back and push in the body of the car. Has anyone got a suggestion to cushion these so they can be pushed an inch or so without bending the body?
Thanks,
John

Yes, these do not offer much if any protection on impacts from the rear. Also, the impact to the bumpers causes point loading to the sheet metal behind......which in my opinion, is worse than no bumpers at all. You could redo the brackets and have them project farther from the sheet metal.

Sorry I don't have any dimensions....can you see the old holes from inside the boot?

You should have two braces inside the boot that they attach to.

Send a kid in to the trunk area with a small drill there should be two nuts welded to the back side of the brackets.
kids are also handy to pass the license plate light wire thru

I'm thinking that someone with dwarfism would not be suited for the job due to their short limbs. I'm guessing it was a midget that they hired to perform the task.

They only used "Malcolm the Midget" for the Midget line, not the Sprites.

And please, I don't mean any disrespect to little people, I'm only using the terms historically as when the cars were built. As late as the '70s there were a pair of twin little people mechanics in the town next to mine that called their place "The Midget Twins Garage."
