I am sure Jesus will show up soon. We had some online discussions about the gears for the odometer. I have no doubt that the speed needle can be calibrated for either KPH or MPH. So, only the odometer would be off...by a good bit. I think he managed to find the correct gears...but I am not sure.
Thanks for the introduction, John.
Yes, I am in the process of converting a MPH speedo into a KPH one, reproducing the original look (very little progress since our last contact, John). How to get a new face has been already mentioned (John can print the right figures and symbols on an old face with excellent results).
The gears for the odometer must be changed to go down from 1180 tpm to around 740 or 730 tmp (1180 divided by 1.61 – 1 mile = 1.61 km), depending on the tire size. I salvaged the gears with the required number of teeth from another Smiths speedo, and got both odometers to count kilometers.
Now I need still to calibrate the needle and install the face to finish. For the calibration I am building a fixture with an electrical motor to drive the speedo at variable speed, so that I can do the job on the bench.
