    Re: Steering not right

I've heard it mentioned--maybe here--that the worm is hardened (seems logical). Filing down the 'tight spot' would likely result in a 'very loose spot' in short order.
  2. Re: A Toast to John Wheatley - A Call for Action

Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure to meet Mr. Wheatley but if ever there was a Healey Kindred Spirit he was one.

Re: 1954 BN1 Wiper Wheelbox and Rack

My dad tore our BN2's wiper drive down and cleaned it out, but he put the top of the drive box on 180deg out. Forgot exactly what they did, but the wipers did not do what you want them to do.

    Re: Steering not right

There is some, er, 'discussion' going on with DWR regarding their 'uprated' steering box. One unhappy customer, don't recall if he's on this forum, installed his and noted resistance in one...

    Re: Steering not right

I'll throw a SWAG into the pot (please excuse if it's been mentioned, I re-read the whole thread and didn't see it, but there's a lot of words). From what I gather, you're basing the center of...
  6. Re: 6 Blade cooling fan for 64 BJ8, advice?

I had one of the original 7-bladed SS flex fans--Hayden brand IIRC--from BCS, bought probably 25 years ago along with their partial shroud. Of all the cooling fixes and mods--upgraded core,...

Re: fan belt change on BJ8

    I was incorrect--thanks, Steve--only the later BJ8s have the half-inch belt. OP didn't specify earlier or later BJ8, I think a 3/8" belt wouldn't be much trouble.

Re: fan belt change on BJ8

Only BN4s and BN6s have the 3/8" belt (according to Moss, anyway). Changing belt size would require replacing all pulleys, and the 1/2" belt should be stronger and more durable anyway (possible why...

    Re: Healey ergonomics question

    I take it that's not a stock MOWOG gearbox? Did it shift itself--from 4th to 2nd?--at 1:35?

    Re: Healey ergonomics question

Ergonomics, ca. 1946 Chevy 2-ton (comfortable as can be, and steering is lighter than my BJ8):

    Thanks for the info.
  13. Re: Nut size for BJ8 center console trim piece

Were any BJ8 produced stock with studs and nuts? Mine has clips.

    Re: Corona Virus Sanity

Only one fill hole is necessary as the OD is supplied by the gearbox oil; something to keep in mind when filling an empty box is that it takes a little time for oil to flow into the OD, so put in...
  15. Re: BN6: Shock absorbers do not fit after renewing the link arms

What do you mean by 'renew?' The 'old' and 'new' links look to me to be completely different; i.e. the old are cylindrical, and the new are barrel-shaped, and appear to have welded seams. Also,...

    Re: Calibrate Smiths Tachometer

Why not put an external tach on the ignition and compare it to the tach? Not high tech, but easy. If your speedo is accurate, you can 'close the loop' at speed with with one of the charts that...

Re: Austin-Healey 100M auction on BAT!

I didn't catch that, but thought I saw some weirdness in the AC test drive, but don't recall what it was.

Pretty funny that the Jag boiled over before going on the block.

    Re: Fuel tank safety

FWIW, we sealed both our Healeys' tanks with the (late) Bill Hirsh's kits, and haven't had any issues. I put a new tank in the BJ8 probably around 25 years and 120K miles ago and the sealant is...
