TR2/3/3A Re: Upholstering the rear wheel arc

CJDs post is and continues to be my bible. I can't do the copy paste thing on my phone, but it's on this forum.

    Upholstery?! Is the thread name

TR2/3/3A Re: Wire wheel conversion question

Mine are pretty old, but no taper. They, however, are short and not resting on the wheel as far as I can tell.

I am missing a few, 4 in fact, not to mention the rust, so was planning to replace...

TR2/3/3A Re: Wire wheel conversion question

Even though my car came with steel wheels from the PO, when I pulled them off, I found washers on each of the studs. I installed a spline adapter to the hub and put lug nuts back on without any...

    TR2/3/3A Re: back to carpets

Hot knives can be acquired at craft stores and are great for cutting synthetics. Melts the edge just a bit so it doesn't unravel.
Also great for carving those foam pumpkins and cutting kite sails....

TR6 Re: Rust on the floorboards

Let me note, replacing a floor pan is a pain in the butt. Take care of it ASAP. Leave no rust behind.

Dad has been using Rust Reformer (Wal-Mart, believe it or not). It's rattle-can variety and...

    YATAH! (Japanese for Huzzah!)

Well after months of avoiding the A and B pillars/sill/floor pan, I finally buckled down and did it. I had some fits and starts since whenever I put weight on the...

    General Tech Re: Chrome removal

I suspect that the knock offs were original. Not sure what direction I was going to go with them. I thought stripping them would save a step (and maybe some money) if I had them rechromed.

    I...

    General Tech Chrome removal

I did some horse trading and aquired a set of spline/wire wheel adapters and knock offs.

Caveat Emptor and all that I knew that there was a distinct possibility that A, they would be so worn out...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

Well today didn't go quite as I planned and now I'm exhausted and sore.

Dropping off the car took longer than expected and my ride back got stuck in traffic coming to get me. By then it was lunch...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

John, (you know, my Dad's name is John too) I haven't yet experimented with Oxy/Acetylene, kinda scared. We have an ARC welder as well, but I use the wire welder. That one I have gotten quite used...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

Took me a minute to figure out the orientation of the pic, but I got it.

I'm guessing my best bet would be (since I'm still frame on) prop shaft tunnel first (maybe a few sheet metal screws to...

    Cross posted:

I have the best memories of my Dad and his TR (rescued from the neighbor's drive porch, and the neighbor's kids) so many years ago. I'd always appreciated the sweep of the wings and...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

My "table" is a plastic topped folding table with 3/4 sub-floor laid on and some 16g mild steel sheets that I mistakenly bought at Tractor Supply thinking I would use them.

    I did.

    Didn't set...
  14. TR2/3/3A Re: Stock air cleaners and aftermarket air cleaners.

I'm a big fan of original, but I do wish someone would sell a chrome one!

I'd have to agree with Geo, those stock air cleaners barely qualify as screen doors, whereas aftermarkets (such as K&N) do...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

I took last week off because it was too darned hot. I mean, like HOT X(

When it is hot you make mistakes. I am at a point right now where any mistakes I make will and can be devastating. Well,...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

Umm, where'd you get the idea that I was ready to paint? No, I'm just thinking ahead.

At first I had intended to pick the whole thing up before welding because of the lack of rear mounts. I felt...

    Ok, no extra weight.
As to where it's going when off the frame, I was planning on using the lift to get it off the frame and while on the lift get some paint on the underside after, of course,...

That's the plan then! But does that mean wings and bonnets too? That's what I feel like youre saying, and it makes sense, even just to tack weld.

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

And that was my big concern, flexing the tub.

By the way, are there 4 spots in the rear (aft of the floor, including the rearmost) mounting points? I saw a kit in the TRF catalog but can't find...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

Actually I thought I was stuck worrying about putting too much twist in the frame from picking up the tub trying to bolt it down so I could eventually pick the whole thing up for paint.

    I'm not...

TR2/3/3A Re: Help, I am stuck, or think I'm stuck

The problem was the PO put no shims on the other side, or bolts or anything. I have the sill and floor, but can't really put them in unless the other side is bolted down and shimmed.

    So to...

Unfortunately, the PO did not put any pads or shims in place that I could see. In fact, all the original pads and shims were in a baggie marked as such along with all new pads and shims.
