  1. MGB Re: New member trying to help a friend with his 1980 MGB LE.

    Hopefully the cable isn't broken...

On the earlier cars you can sometimes get to the release arm through the front grille. Not sure on the rubber bumper cars.

MGB Re: What to replace when engine is out

Thanks for the thoughts. I won't be getting into the internals of this engine, it's a temporary swap and is running, so not going to mess. External seals make sense, maybe the water pump as well. TOC...

    Re: Seat belts

I've got 3-point belts in the Morris and MGB, using the factory mounting points. Not sure what I'll do in the Bugeye. I'll at least do lap belts, not all the way convinced on shoulder belts given the...

MGB Re: What to replace when engine is out

I'm going to use the carbs and distributor from my old engine -- both were rebuilt a few years ago (carbs by Hap, distributor by Jeff).

Engine compression was okay, nothing to write home about...

MGB What to replace when engine is out

As mentioned in my other thread, I'm currently swapping in a known decent engine into my '70MGB so that I can get it back on the road. With everything out there are a few things I know I should...

MGB Re: Stuck in now, engine swap time

It will likely be years  but at least it'll be on the road. That's the main goal, to be able to be driving again so that I can take the time (and I certainly will) to rebuild the original...

MGB Re: Stuck in now, engine swap time

Plan for now is to swap in the donor motor (from a friend's rusted out 70 GT) so that I can get it back on the road and drive it. The original engine needs a rebuild. At a minimum I'll build it up...

I've a whole stack of these OSB cutoffs from the shop build. Used them to build my work bench, and they keep coming in handy for other projects.

MGB Re: Stuck in now, engine swap time

Plan is to clean the donor motor and trans, and pop in a new clutch. Also likely new engine and trans mounts. Don't want to go too deep on this one, just want to be driving again. The engine I pulled...

MGB Re: Stuck in now, engine swap time

Boy, time does get away from me... had hoped to button this up over the winter, but that didn't come close to happening. This morning I got motivation and got to work. The engine is now out!

Hope it's a good one for you, Mickey. Lovely looking cars for sure. As someone with 3 old (currently broken) cars to maintain, I can appreciate the desire to make a switch.

Re: Need email program for club notices

We use Google Groups as well for our local club. It's been rock solid, no issues. I wanted something I wasn't going to have to think about, and it's been exactly what we needed.

    Re: Leaking 5-speed drain plug

Thanks for the tips. My plan now is to swap my spare trans in and see what can be done with my broken one. Worse case is it becomes a donor for internals.

    Re: Leaking 5-speed drain plug

While not desperate, mine will need a new case. My internals are in great shape, but I'm reasonably sure the case is now junk. If your case is in good shape let's PM and talk deal.

    My current plan...

    Re: Leaking 5-speed drain plug

It was not my most shining moment that's for sure. :wall:

I've got a spare 5-speed on the shelf, likely plan is to prep that one and swap it into the Morris. Once the cracked one is out I can...
