    Re: Shop progress

Hi Rut, the shop is looking great. I'm coming to this thread late, but regarding your question about paint color, in my shop I focused on light. There never seems to be enough light to see what you...

Looking good, Joe! It's great that you have three generations working on it to bring it back--lucky car!

    Re: Engine in or out

I agree with Dave and Healey Nut. The weight of the engine and transmission is distributed over three mounts, two of which are over the front wheels. At most the weight at the transmission mount is...

Here is mine. I don't where it came from. It is as-supplied by my restorer.

Cool video. Anything is made better with a Healey and one of the best guitar riffs.

Re: Lowest Mile Works Sebring Sprite for Sale

Fantastic car, amazing story. How I would love to have it. The ad says best offer. If I were to actually make an offer, what number would I have to put on a piece of paper? Ideas?

Re: What's with all the ENGINE REBUILD FAILURED?

Good points Ray, but an experienced professional engine shop is not necessarily expert. If they have not done Healey engines, then they are not expert. The solution is to identify the expert...

Re: Top Frame, Hard to Weld

Ray, I think that is too small a welder to work with 1/4 inch plate. My 180 amp welder runs at 220 and has 10 wire speeds and 6 current settings. To weld 1/4 inch plate, my welder requires the wire...

Re: My Healey Story, 40 Years On

Thanks for the responses. Looking at the old photos of the Healey remind me of a real oddity: When we bought the car, there was no chrome on it. Other than the bumpers, all the chrome on the...

My Healey Story, 40 Years On

40 years ago yesterday, my dad bought the BJ8. He had caught the Austin Healey bug while at the University of Buffalo in the mid-1950ís when one of his fraternity brothers gave him a ride in his...

    Re: Wing Mirror Location

I don't have side view mirrors at all. I think that unless they are mounted on the door, close to the driver (like on all modern cars) a side view mirror does not do much. I have considered the...

Re: first 100 engine serial number plate

According to the books, this engine number was on the very first Longbridge built car, chassis 138031. This car apparently exists. Wonder if it has its original engine.
  16. Re: Has anyone considered Power Rack and Pinion Stearing and/or an Air Bag suspension

Steve, that is exactly the reason why bags on the rear of a truck are valved separately, so that a heavy load can be tweaked and leveled side to side, which is critical for safe handling. I doubt...
  17. Re: Has anyone considered Power Rack and Pinion Stearing and/or an Air Bag suspension

Ray, the bags can be inflated in several ways. There are on-board compressors with in-cab controls to inflate/adjust at the push of a button. Or, you can inflate with an external compressor or...
  18. Re: Has anyone considered Power Rack and Pinion Stearing and/or an Air Bag suspension

    Hello Ray,

I have often thought about air bags on the back of the Healey. I have 5000lb capacity bags on the rear of my RAM 2500 for when I drop the camper in. They level the truck and improve...

Re: Rain cleared up so finally got out.

I got out yesterday too--the rain we had over the past several days washed away the salt, so the Healey came out. I did not encounter any bovines of any sort during my drive...

    Re: Ride height

My restorer uses standard Moss springs and has them recontoured to his specification. It may not be how BJ8's are "supposed" to look, but it is the way God, Donald Healey, and Gerry Coker intended!
  22. Re: help.....one of my fav past-times is not available!!!!

Pan, I just had my car out to warm it up and take its birthday portrait (it is 52 years old today). Maybe this picture will cool you off! Merry Christmas.
  23. Re: Michelin XAS tires for my '67 Austin Healey 3000

Skip, you have quite a bit of snow right now...let's see the car out in it doing doughnuts! No doubt you did that back in the day! (And it will remind Randy what he is missing!)
