  1. TR2/3/3A » Re: Making your own steering wheel stator tube?

Yup, my loft if full of similar mistakes made over the past 50+ years.

  2. TR2/3/3A » Re: Making your own steering wheel stator tube?

Dave, That link says 5/16 OD. I'm pretty sure it should be 3/8. Pretty easy to come by. I got mine at Grainger. It shipped to store free, pricey if otherwise. Tom
  3. TR2/3/3A » Re: Making your own steering wheel stator tube?

Certainly can't add much to that except that my increasingly unsteady hands would make cutting the slot free hand difficult so I used an end mill in my drill press with a slinging vise. If you have...

General Tech » Re: Bleeding Brakes—Venturi/Compressor

Those master cylinders often get air bound. Bench bleeding will avoid that. So will cracking the pressure line at the cylinder itself while pumping after it's in the car. Not a problem with a vacuum...

General Tech » Re: Bleeding Brakes—Venturi/Compressor

+1. Also note that the bubbles are generated at the bleeder screw so the air may still be evacuated from the system even when you see the bubbles. At least that's what I've found with my vac bleeder....

Re: Parts gathering for the S-3 Elan

I'm in the midst of putting my Plus 2 back in order or at least trying to do the same. The good news is that the exchange is very favorable right now. The bad is that most suppliers are working on...

TR4/4A » Re: Vinal interior trim piece eaten by rodent

I bought some individual pieces from Skinner in the UK. You of course will need to match the color so best to go with original supplier. Mine was done before I bought the car and I don't know who...

    Re: DIL's O2 sensor problem - SOLVED

+1 ON THAT AND LOVE THAT DARTBOARD. The OBD systems seem to have gotten better after about 2010, IMO, the down side being that the tools have also become more expensive and model specific.

    TR2/3/3A » Re: TR3 Temperature gauge

Seems like the minutest of minutia but I suppose at these prices you would expect the item to be perfect. It would also be good to know what perfect is. I think it is reasonable to assume that the...

    TR2/3/3A » Re: TR3 Temperature gauge

For what it's worth, I got 2 quotes, one from Nisonger, $171 (2 years ago), and one from West Valley Instruments which was a few dollars more. I went with Nisonger and the final bill came in at about...

TR2/3/3A » Re: The Steering Wheel Nut

Mine measures 1 5/16 exactly. The nut is usually easy to remove as there is not much force on it. I think I've used an open end wrench vertically and also a punch to get them off. I've never torqued...

    TR2/3/3A » Re: Gaskets

Things on these old cars are actually pretty simple. For most things, you will need only a good set of tools and a manual. I'd recommend the Factory one. None of the repairs are permanent either,...

I left the transmission cover flange bare so that it can be easily removed. I used a bit of felt to cover the seam. Seems to work OK. Tom

    TR2/3/3A » Re: Restoration of 54 TR-2

I've never been able to do this although it's been recommended often. If you try to spin the oil pump with the distributor drive, you wind up spinning the cam and engine with the drive gear which is...

TR2/3/3A » Re: extra hole in my water pump?

As long as both holes are in the same cavity, outside of the seal and bearing, it shouldn't matter and need not be plugged. Anywhere else would be a problem. Perhaps someone else has had the issue...

TR2/3/3A » Re: extra hole in my water pump?

The original pump had one slot at about an inch long at the bottom. There was also a grease fitting, 1/8 pipe thread at the top and aft of the slot.

TR2/3/3A » Re: Timing chain tensioner.

  24. TR2/3/3A » Re: All new valve train - no adjustment at rocker arms

Not advisable IMO but I am an amateur builder at best. You'd need to retain the radius of the end as well as the balance or weight and I'm not sure 1/16 would suffice. Also don't know haw hard the...
