Re: Hide the Women and Children

As long as we've wandered into 'Predicting the Future' territory ...

Ah, that 'splains it; for some reason I thought it was front shock setup (I took a speed-reading course).

    Re: Broken Shock Mounts

I just had a similar break--good weld, metal fatigue next to it--on a shield I fabbed for my lawn edger. I'm not a metallurgist, but I think the heat of the weld changes the crystalline structure of...

Re: Side-Change Gearbox Stuck in Top Gear

That's a weird pattern in the buffer hole. I'd expect three circles, corresponding to the ends of the shafts, but a 'swirl' pattern? I've seen it in other pictures of the hole as well.

Re: Side-Change Gearbox Stuck in Top Gear

Randy, the ends of those shift rods look pretty corroded; was that box in water?

Edit: Further to Randy's and Jack's posts; would a missing or damaged 'buffer' in the oval depression in the bell...

Re: Side-Change Gearbox Stuck in Top Gear

These two balls go between the shifter shafts, on either side of the center shaft. They prevent two gears from being selected simultaneously which, as Magnus Karlsson so eloquently put it: "would...

    Re: Period 100 Review

This comment: "... it is more a fast tourer than a competitive sports car ..."

  9. Re: Does anyone still make or sell a quality condenser?

Put in a Pertronix and never have to futz with points/condensors again.
  10. Re: Rich Needles - AUD1474 - Guidelines for use?

I think they'd only be required in non-stock engines; i.e one with headers, higher compression or intake/carburettor mods. I've run STD needles in my BJ8 for over 140K miles with no issues (and up to...

Re: Conclave 2021 in Southern California

If you've already driven the Pacific Coast Highway, Highway 395 is the way to go from the north. The eastern side of the Sierras seen from the Owens Valley area is stunning (a stay at Death Valley...
  12. Re: Gearbox Throw-out pin and gasket question

Jack's right, the shift fork shaft bushings are a PITA to replace. But if you do let us know, I have some suggestions. A little side play is not a problem; in fact, when I showed my late father--a...
  13. Re: Gearbox Throw-out pin and gasket question

The pin is a tapered pin that locks the fork onto the shaft (the pic is misleading, it actually should be shown with the shaft). You can just make out one end of it in your second photo; it has to...

    Re: Vintage Oil

Be sure to shake it well before pouring. I've noticed some sediment in oil I've had sitting on the shelf for a long time; I suspected and have been told by others it could be some of the additives...

Re: Fuel pump racing, no gas

IIRC, older sixes, like the BN4, had the fuel line on the same side of the exhaust (my BJ8 has its pump on the passenger side). My experience--with a BN2 and a BJ8--is that the 'vapor...

Re: Side-Change Gearbox Stuck in Top Gear

There is a small, oval cavity on the rear side of the bell housing that the selector rods extend into. There should be in a pad in the cavity to prevent too much forward travel of all three selector...

Re: Pourquoi viens-tu si tard ?

NP. 'Eli' was a 'Mad Max-style' apocalypse--kinda like now ;)--film so a Healey would have been a scene-stealer.

Re: Pourquoi viens-tu si tard ?

Could have been. I don't remember seeing a Healey in the 'Book of Eli.' It was all in sepia tones anyway.

Re: New water pumps on the market

Moss has them (160deg)--$99.99 yikes; that's, like, $500 Canadian :playful:. There are a couple types of 'sleeved' thermos around. The original was a 'barrel' shaped type that doesn't look like...
  23. Re: Tyre diameter less than 680mm but bigger than 640mm, any ideas?

Steve, Your wheels are probably 5" or 6" rims; I've not seen Dayton make a 5.5" rim for Brit cars (Rudge spline drive). Too bad, really, I have 6"--probably made for Jags--and I think they're just a...

I have one small 'complaint,' and it's a very minor one: I wanted a squared notch, esp. on the driver's side, where the mat buts up against the bell housing cover corner. This would prevent the mat...
