MGB Re: '74 MGB GT - Is it Worth it?

I suppose it's always what the market will bear. Asking's free after all...

That said, that's a bunch for a GT of any sort, let alone a rubber bumper car. In general MGB prices have been pretty...

    Re: New OLD watch

    I love that quote, PC.

And back in the 80s when I was in high school I really didn't like digital watches at all, I was an analog guy all the way. In my watch collection now are a couple digital...

    Re: New OLD watch

Neat old watch! If it works it's certainly worth keeping. Neat bit of history with a little personal connection.

    Re: Moss Is Open!

I've been happily ordering from British Parts Northwest for the last month, but there are just some things that Moss has that others don't. Those little bits and bobs that are not exciting...

Re: Some expensive cars in this lineup.

Lovely stuff. Were I able, I'd love to take part in that. Bit above my budget, but if the inheritance comes in from a long-lost uncle I'm there. ;)

    Re: Moss Is Open!

That is exciting news. Hopefully their team is safe and healthy. I've actually got a few things queued up for order with them for my MGB. Will probably wait a little while, as I imagine the order...

MGB Re: Talk to me about bottom end bearings

Thanks for the continued ideas. Hope to get in and take a peek this weekend if I can carve out an hour or two.

MGB Re: Talk to me about bottom end bearings

That's pretty much the plan with this one. Do the minimums and get it going. Machine work was my mention, and something I'm working to avoid. :D

I will tend to want to do it all right and go...

MGB Re: Talk to me about bottom end bearings

Thanks for the tips. I'm trying to avoid going full on with a rebuild. Not really in the budget to do any machine work right now.

Would it make sense to pull one of the center bearings, figure...

MGB Re: Talk to me about bottom end bearings

Do I need to remove the rear plate/flywheel to pull that rear main cap?

I'm going to dig in, the engine is right there and it seems silly not to at least check.

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

What, you can't read my mind? :D

4-synchro box (1970). #3 in the Moss schematic, rubber bushes. There are 2 of them, on the center mount of the trans crossmember.

MGB Talk to me about bottom end bearings

So I was out in the shop today working on the trans crossmember for my MGB project and contemplating Doc's question as to if I had checked the bearing shells while I was replacing the oil pan gasket....

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

Any tips for installing the rubber bushings on the trans mount? I can see how they go, but they're being stubborn.

    Re: So ... what's up?

    Very well said, JP.

Working here, too. I agree that it is exhausting these days. I'm incredibly proud of my team (I run the tech department at a public school) but we're all pretty worn out. Still...

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

Thanks guys. I'll leave well enough alone at this point. Hoping to get the trans mount sorted tonight, chipping away a little at a time while I wait for the next parts order.

    BP Northwest has been...

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

I bought this car back 3+ years ago and have only driven it my 50 miles. Time to have it running one way or another.

I didn't look at the bearing shells while the pan was off. Mostly didn't think...

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

Yup, did side cover gaskets as well. Tried to get the easy stuff done with the engine out.

It's hard to resist the temptation to go deeper, but I have to remind myself that this is a temporary...

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

I'm not going to paint this engine, as it's just a temporary (famous last words) solution. When I get around to rebuilding the original it will get a nice coat of MG engine red.

    If it were just a...

MGB Re: Bringing the B back to life

Thanks, guys. I'll try and get a plug if one is available, but BPNorthwest doesn't have it and Moss/VB are closed. Given that my original engine hasn't had a plug for that hole the entire time I've...
