  1. Re: What's the Recommended REAR END oil gl Grade?

The idea of putting the residue into suspension does not sound appealing to me.
  2. Re: Loose Metal Knocking/Banging Sound during Rough Idle

    Bob--

No I did not and though at the time I know I had a (good) reason, i am kinda sorry I did not. However the ring did eliminate the persistent oil drip
  3. Re: Loose Metal Knocking/Banging Sound during Rough Idle

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that I wrapped up the job by installing an item I purchased from BCS (Nock): a stiffener ring that goes under the perimeter bolts of the front cover. ...
  4. Re: Loose Metal Knocking/Banging Sound during Rough Idle

    Roscoe--

Correct on both accounts. When I fished the first pieces out of the oil I had drained in a routine change I was perplexed as the stuff seemed like hard plastic and I could not think of...

    John

Next time you go for a colonoscopy ask the gastroenterologist can he get a good look in there if you just wipe real well.
  6. Re: What's the Recommended REAR END oil gl Grade?

For purely prophylactic reasons about six months ago I decided to pull the diff out of my 100. I had done this many times on my race cars, all of which use Spridget center sections, and I was quite...
  7. Re: What's the Recommended REAR END oil gl Grade?

GL-5 oil is more resistant to shearing forces.
I use Amsoil Severe Gear EP 75/140 on all my cars.
  8. Re: Loose Metal Knocking/Banging Sound during Rough Idle

    Ray--

Perhaps a six-cylinder is different but I worked from underneath and did not have to go beyond pulling the radiator. It was, however, a tough job.
  9. Re: Loose Metal Knocking/Banging Sound during Rough Idle

    Ray--

Until about a year back I spent a lot of time with no success trying to find the source of a rattling noise that would seem to only appear at idle. In the course of changing the oil I found...

    Re: Towards better brake performance....

Completed the install this morning and followed the recommended procedure including the no-brake stop which, with a bit of planning, was not to difficult to accomplish.

    After giving the brakes an...

    Re: Towards better brake performance....

    Rick--

Thanks for the info. Moss' instructions )http://www.mossmotoring.com/bedding-in-your-brakes/) are a bit more specific than those in the Zeckhausen article, and I guess I will find a...

    Re: Towards better brake performance....

Since starting this topic a few weeks back I decided to replace everything (except for the brake pipes) and purchased new rotors, caliper rebuild kits, inner and outer bearings and semi-metallic pads...

    Randy--

I'm putting you on my crew list for the HSR races at Sebring December 5-8. You'd better not disappoint me!
  14. Re: Seat Foams and recommended interiors?

Regarding the foam, it's not just the way the seats look--it's also the way they feel. I had the interior of my BN1 done by Von Patterson using Heritage materials and I had--and still have--the...
  15. Re: BN2 wheel cylinders/rebuild/replace?

    Ed--

New brake hoses--preferably SS--are definitely in order. I JUST GOT QA NICE SET FROM OLDPHARTZ PARTS

I ordered new front rotors and semi-metallic pads and rear shoes from MM today. Unfortunately I will not be able to install till next week but will report back when done.
    Given that everything...

    Re: Towards better brake performance....

Thanks all for the input and I will probably pursue Steve's suggestion: "You might consider new rotors ($26 ea) and the Moss ceramic pads ($38/set)."

    Towards better brake performance....

Whether due to aging of the driver or brake materials--or both--it appears that lately I must exert a lot of pedal pressure to get what seems like less braking response. I know this is a very...
  19. Re: need some advice fitting the bonnet on a 54 BN1

    Charles--

Getting the radiator in/out with the bonnet attached is no problem but you will have to hold it opened further than the prop-rod does. It is a two-person job.
  20. Re: Why Would Anyone Butcher a Healey with a V8?

So, it appears, was the Maserati, which had the faster "Best Lap" by 2.2 seconds:

    DNF 8 Michael LYONS Austin Healey-Corvette BN1 - 1954 11 3 Laps 17:36.890 1 Lap 89.17 1:34.080 7

  21. Re: Why Would Anyone Butcher a Healey with a V8?

    Vette--

The Healey driver's apparent situational unawareness seems not have been lost on the driver of the Maserati who following that tends to keep a safe distance.
  22. Re: Why Would Anyone Butcher a Healey with a V8?

"Being able to outpace a Maserati 300S with your Corvette-engined 100 could have something to do with it."

The relative value of his car versus that of the Chevy-Healey might also have led the...

    Re: Door ding!

Perhaps the only thing worse than a dent made by some non-caring jerk is a self-inflicted wound. I recently achieved one of these while changing out the water pump on my car: I was leaning into the...

Sorry you got stung so badly.

As to scuttle shake, some cars have it and some don't. Some folks have luck reducing it by the methods stated in previous posts and some folks learn to...
