    The purpose of torquing is to stretch the fastener so that enough pressure is applied to the mating surfaces. It is not to seat threads. You only need to torque the nut.

    I had the same problem. You can try the hand bending by pulling both edges toward center simultaneously. I think I resorted to a clamp like a quik-grip.
